The Flea Market Reigns in the Rain!

When you work or have a booth at the Flamingo Island Flea Market, you sort of wish it will rain on Friday, Saturday and Sunday! In fact it would be a perfect weekend at the Market if it rained all three of those days. WHY? Because when you live in Paradise, folks look for those perfect sunny days to go golfing, play tennis, take a long morning walk, go the beach, have outdoor lunch, and the list of sunny things to do is endless. But when it rains the Flea Market is the go to place to shop and eat at one of the restaurants.

Rainy days here in S.W. Florida spells SHOPPING. For me, it says Workout. The Flea Market is the perfect indoor stroll fit place as you also can shop.

When I heard we were expecting a storm today (October 18th 2019), I got excited. The storm was to land on the weekend of the three precious Flaming Island Flea Market Days, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. We only have THREE days to sell our wares, sells things you can wear and like me, sell heath and fitness and from what I can see, who cares.

My neighbors or ‘Booth Friends’ had really been down. It was a SLOW, SAD SUMMER at the Market, but TODAY! The storm REIGNED on us. Folks came in from the rain and we reigned in on Sales. We met wonderful folks that finally were able to wander in and enjoy what we have to offer in the rain.

Running a small business, is not easy. Especially in OFF Season in S.W. Florida. So those of us that have small businesses, have to prepare for those summer months and slow three day weekends. Most of the Booth Owners  choose the flea market because it is not too expensive to set up shop. But, if there are no folks coming in, it can be tough to survive.

RAIN. As a Seattle Girl, I am use to it but I still hate the rain. As a fitness instructor with a Fitness Tool that  I am selling at the Flea Market, I look forward to these rainy days. As I am writing this, I am thinking of a Rainy Day Workout using the Tool. Will put it up on You Tube (Put Link in too). Here is a Fit Tip for your rainy day, make sure to reign in on your fitness and  health goals even when it rains.

NEED MORE TRAFFIC? Not Social Media Silly! At The Flamingo Island Flea Market!! Tis The ‘SEASON’.

I have to be honest. Summer here in Bonita Springs at the local Flamingo Island Flea Market, was DEAD. We are a Seasonal Place, S.W. Florida. It is changing a bit but not this summer. Folks down here in S.W. Florida, like air conditioning. The Market has air conditioning piped in but it is still a open aired marketplace. The Market was also Dead because most of the booth owners pack up when season is over and leave in May.

It leaves just the vendors, like myself to be creative enough to try to bring folks into the Market in the ‘Dead of Summer”. Many of us choose to stay because we like the location of our booth and we also get to meet more of the full timers that choose to live in paradise year round. It was the hot summer that I decided to start teaching fitness classes at the Flamingo Island Flea Market and walk the Flea. This way, my clients to meet other vendors and SHOP.

Tis the season for Fitness. My clients were sweating and getting in shape and also finding really neat items from those vendors, like me, who are seasoned enough to stay at The Flamingo Island Flea Market in OFF Season. Let me tell you, the friendships I made with neighboring vendors this summer at the Flea was worth the fact that business was like a SLOW COOKER! My closest neighbor was Joanne of (Bright Smiles) and Terese of (Lui Designs). They are right across from me in the Blue Aisle and we kept Flamingo Island the place to shop and feel the energy of paradise.

Being creative with my fitness business and being slow at the Flea Market, it only seemed natural to bring folks into the Market for a Walking Class (WalkerSize). My goal to get folks to Walk the entire market. After, we lay out our exercise mats in a Space that has been abandoned buy a NON Seasonal Vendor and focus on our Waistlines (WaisterSize). I trained wonderful folks this summer. I loved it. We brought fitness into spaces that were NOT rented. It was sort of COOL (Pun, Right?)

In my life, I have trained in Central Park, my own gym in NYC and in many apartment and homes. This is my first time bringing fitness to a Flea Market.  It is NOT easy. But nothing about fitness is easy for people. I am hoping that bringing a fitness class to a Flea Market in Season and not in Season will be a new way for folks to get fit and meet friendly vendors, find fun unique stuff and create a style of training that makes them savor fitness. Good News, I am the RUB and I am a SEASONED trainer!
